Tiger Woods Injuries - What Can We Learn?

The only Tiger Woods injuries that have been known to affect his game substantially are the injury to his leg and to his neck. While he was able to play through these injuries for a while, they eventually even caught up with him. He had to take some action to address them before they led to more permanent damage to his game and body. Weekend golfers could learn from Tiger.

First, Tiger leg injury was brought out to the public in 2008 around the time of the U.S. Open consisted of a torn ACL and a double stress fracture in his left tibia. Of course, as history goes, Tiger went on to win the Open while playing with these injuries. In fact, his then coach Hank Haney said that Tiger had been suffering with leg pain for as long as 10 months. The double stress fracture was likely a result of playing on an already injured leg.

The second Tiger Woods injury was to his neck, which led to him bowing out of the TPC tournament in 2010. Some say that this injury came from the infamous 2010 car crash. Tiger says that was not the case – it was a longer standing problem. I will take Tiger at his word. Either way, the injury made Tiger Woods golf swing impossible to execute.

The solution for his leg and neck injuries was rest, anti-inflammatory medicine and rehabilitation. In the case of the leg he required surgery as well. However, he did not address his injuries until he was forced to. Unfortunately, this is a practice that many of us everyday golfers do as well – play injured until we are forced to address our problem.

However, we don’t get paid to go play 18 holes and we don’t enjoy ourselves when we are injured. Knee, neck, hip, back, and shoulder injuries are common amongst everyday golfers. Further, not addressing one injury can often lead to another. Before you know it, your game and body is suffering to the point wear you need serious help.

I advised you to address your bodily pains early, rehab until you are fully healthy and learn a good golf technique that will keep you out on the course in good health. Yes, Tiger is the man. However, maybe you should not emulate him in all areas.
