Watch this slow motion golf swing video from the moment of impact to the end of Tiger's follow through to understand the swing analysis provided below.
Tiger Woods follow through (arms and elbows) – On his follow through, Tiger chases his right arm down the target line for increased power. At about the 5:00 o’clock position, both his left and right arm are fully extended leaving the elbows straightened. From 5:00 o’clock on the right arm remains straight except for at the very end and the left arm begins bending. All these things are signs that Tiger allowed his upper body to swing through on plane with a wide swing arc for power and accuracy.
Tiger follow through (wrist and hands) – Tiger’s right wrist and hand continues to outrace the left hand until the right hand is completely in front of the left hand at 4:00 o’clock. Remember, the right hand had to begin moving faster than the left at 8:00 o’clock to square up the club. This thru swing action is just a natural continuation and a sign of a consistent pace wrist rotation.
Tiger Woods follow through (hips) – Tiger’s hips continue to rotate on his through swing until his belt buckle faces the target. This is one sign that he has fully transferred his weight to his left side.
Tiger follow through (legs, knees and feet) – Tiger’s left foot, knee and leg continue to rotate slowly through impact until they all point down the line at the 12:00 o’ clock position. His right foot continues to lift off of the ground until he is fully on his right toes at 12:00 o’clock with his shoe spikes are pointing away from the target. All of things are a sign of proper and smooth body rotation, weight transfer, and balance in the entire swing.
Tiger follow through (shoulders) – Tiger’s shoulders perform an incredible feat of flexibility becoming almost vertical with the left shoulder over the right shoulder at 1 o’clock. He accomplishes this while his head is still well in back of his hips. To fire drives down the line like Tiger, shoulder flexibility is a must have.
Tiger Woods follow through (head) - Tiger’s head stays back on his through swing until the 3:00 o’clock position when he begins to move forward. This is a sign that he maintained his spine angle well through impact. Accordingly, his swing circled around the same axis to produce a consistent and powerful drive.
