Putting Tips For Keeping Your Head Still

This article provides golf putting tips to help you keep your head still. It is a supplement to this site's Golf Putting Tips Basics.

One problem that plagues many golfers is the inability to keep their head still while putting. This causes them to pull or push their putts off line.

After reading the golf tips below, you should have the tools needed to putt without moving your head. The end result will be more successful putts.

For more ways to cure moving your head while putting, also see this site's Putting Drills To Keep Your Head Still Article.

5 Golf Putting Tips To Keep Your Head Still

Tip 1: Putt Through Keeping Lead Shoulder Low - Focus on keeping the lead shoulder low through impact when putting. This trick is used by many golfers, most noteably, Jack Nicklaus. Putting through the ball while raising your lead shoulder too much leads to you moving your head.

Tip 2: Focus on a Mark on the Equator of the Ball - Line up your ball so that a mark, logo, or line on the ball's equator is showing on the back of the ball. Focusing on this spot until impact will keep your head still while putting.

Tip 3: Spot Putt - Find a spot immediately in front of your ball that is on the target line. Aim to roll you ball over this spot. This tip is good for two reasons:

  • First, it stops you from losing your target line. You won't look up trying to remember where the hole is.

  • Second, you can see the ball roll over the spot without moving your head.

Tip 4: Count to 2 Before Looking Up - Get in the habit of counting to 2 before looking up for your putt. Over time you will take the want to quickly look up for the ball out of your putting.

Tip 5: Watch the Grass Appear Beneath the Ball - As you putt through the ball, try to watch the grass beneath the ball appear. The moment it takes for the ball to move and for your putter to pass by is all you need to gaurantee a still head through your putt.
