This article provides golf putting drills to help you keep your head still while putting.
Whether it leads to you pulling or pushing your ball off its target line, the end result is a missed putt when you lift your head before striking the ball.
The putting drills below will help you keep your head still until after you make contact with the golf ball.
He who looks up before striking his putt need not look in the cup for his ball. For he surely will miss.
Putting Drills For Keeping Your Head Still
Drill 1: Look Away From The Hole - One reason why golfers tend to look up before hitting their putts is because they want to see the ball go in the hole. To break this habit, do the opposite. Practice striking putts and then turning your head in the opposite direction of the hole.
Drill 2: Practice Remembering The Hole - One of the key reasons golfers look up is because they forget where the hole is in their mind's eye. Practice looking at the cup and then looking away and remembering how far away and in what location the hole is.
Drill 3: Hit Then Close Your Eyes - Strike the ball and then close your eyes. Like the first drill, this drill will teach you to be unconcerned with seeing the ball go in the hole.
Drill 4: Place A Coin Beneath the Ball - Practice putting with a coin or marker beneath the golf ball. Don't let yourself look up until you see the marker. Obviously, you won't be able to see the coin until after the ball is struck.
Drill 5: Take Putting Strokes With Your Head Against A Wall -Practice your putting stroke with your head pressed against a wall. This will give you the proper feeling for putting with a still head.
Drill 6: Have A Friend Hold Your Head Still - Practice putting strokes with your friend holding your head still. Practice this until your friend does not have to apply any resistance to hold your head still.
Drill 7: Listen to Short Putts Hit The Cup - Practice making very short putts never looking up until you hear the sound of the ball dropping in the cup.
