Golf Putting Drills: Putter Sweet Spot Hand Eye Coordination

View the two best putting drills for striking the putter sweet spot; essential to perfect putting line accuracy and distance control to hole out putts.

If your putting stroke does not strike the sweet spot of the putter you will throw your ball off your putting line and lose distance. Over time this will destroy your putting feel.

The question is how do you learn to strike the sweet spot. The answer only involves a little tape, two coins, and a couple of tees.

Your golf putting hand eye coordination will soar as you go from good to great to perfect putting.

The article is meant to supplement the Golf Putting Tips Basics Article.

Enjoy!

1st Putting Drill: Construct and Use the Goal Post Putter

putter sweet spot putting drill

Step 1: Take some sticky tape and tape two tees equal distance from the sweet spot of the putter face. Make the tees spaced apart a little wider than the width of the ball. Be generous, this drill can be difficult at first if you place the tees too close together.

Step 2: Begin to hit some 4 to 6 foot putts. You will notice that if you stray too far from the sweet spot (all according to how tight you made your goal post) the ball will strike a tee and shoot off on a weird direction.

Step 3: Begin practicing from longer distances. As your stroke becomes longer, this drill will become more difficult.

Step 4: To increase the difficulty of the drill, bring the tees closer together.

Step 5: To really step things up a notch, practice this putting drill from short range with your eyes closed. Set up as normal with your eyes open and after you are set take the stroke with closed eyes.

Step 6: If you continue to hole out putts move on to the next drill.

2nd Putting Drill:
Construct a Bull's Eye

Putter Sweet Spot Putting Drill

Use this drill once your golf putting hand eye coordination really increases. This one is better for the super accurate putter because it can be hard to make the goal post above tight enough without mistakenly bringing the tees closer together than the width of the ball.

Step 1: Take some sticky tape and tape two coins over the sweet spot of the putter face.

Step 2: Begin putting as described in step 2 through 5 of the putter goal post drill.

If this is a piece of cake you are a putting genius!

Closing Notes

The above golf putting practice drills will allow you to increase your putting line accuracy and increase your distance control.

You will be isolating one of the variables to good putting. That is the problem with becoming a better putter --- isolating the variables.

Without drills like the ones above, you would not know if a bad putt was due to poor aim, touch, a missed read, etc…

However, when the ball shoots off to the left or right from hitting tees or the side of the coins, you know it was your failure to hit the putter sweet spot.
