Love of Golf Friendships

Love of Golf Friendships: Those golfers who seem to love the game the most have built lasting friendships through the game of golf. It could be that they have made existing friendships stronger. Many times they make friends with people that they would have never known if it were not for golf.

These additional and/or stronger friendships add enjoyment to golf and life. Below is my advice on how to increase your love of golf by gaining great friends through the game.

Tip 1 - Friendly Competition: Part of golf is pushing one another to get better at the game. This should involve a little betting, a little trash talking and a little gamesmanship. The point is, however, a little. Too much and it leads to cheating and resentment, which are not great building blocks for friendship.

Tip 2 – Nineteenth Hole: Never overlook the importance of going into the clubhouse and sitting down for a couple of beers, to settle up the skins and to talk sports. You will find that you have a lot of knowledge to share with one another. Sometimes jobs and opportunities present themselves. Regardless, it’s just nice to have someone to talk with sometimes.

Tip 3 – Treat a Friend to a Hotdog: Buying a friend a hotdog or beer is a classy thing to do. But you can mess this act of courtesy up. Don’t try this courtesy if you are one of those people who can’t part with a few dollars without demanding it right back. You know, statements like “It’s your turn to buy, I just bought.” This just turns a classy act into two people taking turns paying for a dog.

Tip 4 – Yearly Golfing Trips and Vacations: Nothing improves friendships like shared memorable moments. Well golfing trips and vacation make for very memorable moments - restaurants, bad shots, beer girls, night life, friendly spade and poker games, etc… My advice is to rent a house for your golfing vacations with large groups. They bring a large group together as close friends.

Follow these four tips and you will find yourself with more golfing buddies.
