Golf Putting Lessons & Tips For Your Pre-shot Routine

This article provides you with free online golf putting lessons for your pre-shot putting routines. You will read greens better, putt better, play with better etiquette, and play faster.

As you will see, your putting pre-shot routine begins long before you reach the green and continues until right before the moment you putt. Without further ado, I present to you the golf putting tips below.

10 Golf Putting Lessons For Your Putting Pre-shot Routine

Tip 1 - Read The Green For Your Chip: You must read the green to know where to leave your chip for the best possible chance to make the follow up putt.

Tip 2 - Observe The Green From A Distance: You must view the green from a distant vantage point to see the general slope of the green.

Tip 3 - 8 Factors to Consider: Your putting pre-shot routine should consider 1) the wind; 2) grain; 3) grass height; 4) firmness of the green; 5) moisture of the green; 6) downhill/uphill; 7) the slope; and 8) putts, chips and approach shots to the green.

Tip 4 - Consider the Flag: Hey, if the flag is not fully in the cup, consider that too. The flag will lean in the direction of the break. Obviously, the flag can tell you about the wind, as well.

Tip 5 - Get Down and Touch the Green: Touch the green to observe the moisture, firmness, grass height and grain.

Tip 6 - Circle the Cup: When first on the green, walk in a large circle around your ball and the cup to see the localized features of the green more relevant to your putt.

Tip 7 - Address the Ball Efficiently: Take practice strokes and find your target line before setting up to the ball, so you don't destroy your rhythm and concentration by having to back off of an addressed ball.

Tip 8 - Make Grip Adjustments After Address: Make fine tuned adjustments to your grip after addressing the ball. Making them before address is a waste of time because you will likely move your grip a little during setup.

Tip 9 - Breathe: Breathe during the setup process, taking your nerves away so you can putt smoothly and without standing over the ball forever.

Tip 10 - Practice These Golf Putting Lessons: Perform the above golf putting tips consistently and you will perform better on the putting green.
