These golf lessons and instructions provide free basic golf chipping tips for your chips from the fairway, fringe of the green and light rough. You will start chipping the ball in the hole or darn close......
Sculling and hitting the ball fat will be things of the past.
For chips (shots that are around 30 yards or less) you have come to the right place. For pitching (shots that are longer than 30 yards) see this
basic golf pitching tips article.
Let me tell you up front that chipping can be performed using a variety of methods and clubs, but chipping does have some universal basics. It is those golf basics that will be discussed below.
8 Basic Free Golf Chipping Tips
Tip 1 - Use Hands, Arms, and Shoulders Only: First, understand that chipping is different from pitching because chipping involves solely the hands, arms, and shoulder. This will make your chipping more accurate.
Tips 2 - Square Club Face: Always square your club to the target at address. This does not mean that you cannot open your clubface to produce a higher lofted shot. However, if you do, make sure that you turn your stance open until the club is square to the target again.
Tip 3 - Don't Break Your Wrist: Do not break your wrist on the follow through motion. Keep in mind that this does not mean that you should not cock your wrist on the backswing. In fact, the longer the chip, the more you should cock your wrist on the backswing. However, on the downswing until impact you should maintain the cock in your wrist and swing forward with your arms and shoulders to make contact.
Tip 4 - Proper Stance: Assume a 1)narrow, 2)open, 3)upright, 4)comfortable and 5)forward weighted stance. Chipping is not very demanding on your balance because it is a short swing. Accordingly the typical stance for a full swing is not needed. A narrow open stance will help you chip without body interference. An upright stance will raise the heel of the club off the ground to prevent the club from catching in the turf. A comfortable stance will allow you to have touch. Putting your weight forward will help you have a descending blow for your chip.
Tip 5 - Putter, Putter Grip, Putter Stroke: Consider using a putter or putting stroke when you’re close. You have probably heard that a bad putt is better than a bad chip when you’re on a low cut fairway or fringe. However, you can also use a putting stroke (and putting grip for that matter) with a wedge or iron. This stroke involves no wrist hinge and an unbroken wrist on impact just like your putting stroke.
Tip 6 - Accelerate Through Impact: Accelerate through impact. It’s that simple, but of all the golf chipping tips given in this article, it is the most violated. So read it again and again until you get it.
Tip 7 - Palms Facing: Assume a comfortable grip that keeps the palms of the hands facing one another. It’s that simple --- enough said.
Tip 8 - Practice: You must practice the above golf chipping tips. After all, chipping practice is far too neglected.
